MILO winner of MovieSquad Cinekid award
MovieSquad Cinekid is the young people's jury of the Cinekid Festival in Amsterdam. It's an initiative of EYE Film Institute Netherlands and Cinekid. It's already the third time that is has been organized in Amsterdam. MovieSquad gives young people the opportunity to fully experience a film festival and to present their opinions on film.
The MovieSquad Cinekid jury 2012 consisted of 5 members aged 12 years old: Daan Kanne, Anne Buissink, Wietske Hora Adema, Ischa Tijssens and Beshoy Nasralla, all of whom are from the Netherlands. They have seen films, met directors and press. They also visited workshops and the Medialab at the festival. They finally selected three nominees out of the six festival films that were up for consideration. The nominees are: The Secret (Morten Köhlert, Denmark, 2012), Wunderkinder (Marcus O. Rosenmüller , Germany, 2011) and Milo (Berend Boorsma, Roel Boorsma, Ireland/The Netehrlands, 2012).
Friday the 26th of October they have announced the winner of the MovieSquad Cinekid Award 2012: MILO by Berend and Roel Boorsma. The MovieSquad Award is an Award to promote the winning film among young people in the Netherlands. Besides this the film has a chance to be programmed in one of the national film educational activities of EYE.
In their statement the jury said: 'We nominated this film because the acting is very strong and the sphere very beautiful. During angry moments everything went dark and grey, but at happy moments it looks nice bright and lively. The film shows a recognizable world: a boy with a serious disease. This story could happen for real and we think the theme is very important. That's why we've chosen this film as the winner of the MovieSquad Cinekid Award 2012.'
